Colorado State University has developed a Security Clearance Program to enhance personnel security for individuals with access to Tier 1 biological select agents and toxins (Tier 1 BSAT). This program conforms with guidance established by the Centers for Disease Control. This program is administered by the Department of Support and Safety Assessment, and involves procedures for conducting a pre-access suitability assessment for individuals who will need access to Tier 1 BSAT. To ensure individuals continue to merit access to Tier 1 BSAT, an on-going Security Clearance Program is in place. The Department of Support and Safety Assessment works closely and collaboratively with the University Director of Biosafety to implement and continually review the Tier 1 BSAT Security Clearance Program.
